MORE THAN A DWARF?
“Fornet” essays on Europe’s foreign policy,
security and defence

Collection of papers (in English, 296 pages) presented by researchers and practitioners at various forums held in 2004 within the Network of research and teaching on European foreign policy “FORNET”.

 

 

The book contains analyses on the evolution of CFSP and its relation to internal security, strategic EU relations with the US and NATO, regional dimensions of Europe’s security and defence (in the Western Balkans, Cyprus, Middle East and Africa), EU neighbourhood policy, crisis management, countering terrorist financing, integration of EU defence industries, fiscal backing of CFSP, etc.

The volume is edited by Krassimir Nikolov.

ELENI DEMIRI is researcher at the Institute of European Integration and Policy at the University of Athens, Greece; she holds an MA in International Relations and European Studies from the University of Kent, UK

MATTHEW GABEL is associate professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Kentucky, USA, and co-editor of “Journal of European Union Politics” (Sage Publications)

BASTIAN GIEGERICH is completing his doctorate at the Department of International Relations, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK

VASSIL MAREKOV is doctoral candidate at the Department of European Studies, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”

COSTAS MELAKOPIDES is associate professor of international relations at the University of Cyprus; he is also co-founder and president of the Cyprus Institute of Mediterranean, European and International Studies (KIMEDE) – Nicosia, Cyprus

LYUBOV MINCHEVA has a doctorate from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA; she teaches at the Political Science Department of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; she is also Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Regional and International Studies (IRIS) – Sofia, and Affiliated Researcher with the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA

HANSPETER NEUHOLD is professor of public international law and international relations and director of the Institute of International Law and International Relations, University of Vienna, Austria

KRASSIMIR NIKOLOV is secretary general of the Bulgarian European Community Studies Association (BECSA); he teaches as Jean Monnet lecturer in European integration at the New Bulgarian University (NBU) – Sofia, and Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”

PLAMEN RALCHEV is doctoral candidate at the Department of International Relations, University for National and World Economy (UNWE) – Sofia, Bulgaria; he works as Policy Analyst at the Institute for Regional and International Studies (IRIS), Sofia

RADY STOYANOV is doctoral candidate at the Department of International Relations, University for National and World Economy – Sofia, Bulgaria; he works as desk officer for South Eastern Europe at the Bulgarian Economic Forum

KAMEN VELICHKOV is counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, forme r Bulgarian ambassador to the Netherlands (1996-2001), foreign policy advisor to the President of the Republic (1992-1996) and first Bulgarian chargé d’affaires in Israel (1990-1992)

EVANGELOS VLIORAS is research fellow at the Hellenic Centre of European Studies and Research (EKEME) – Athens, Greece; he holds an MA in European and International Studies from the University of Athens, Greece
