The Bulgarian European Community Studies Association (BECSA) is a non-governmental organisation reuniting persons whose academic, research or other professional, public and creative activity is closely connected with the activities of the European Community (EC) / European Union (EU) and with various aspects of European integration and cooperation.

The goals of the Association include:

• development and fostering of civil society’s spiritual values in Bulgaria in conformity with achievements in the process of integration and cooperation in Europe;

• research on the theoretical and practical problems of activities of the EC/EU, of the possibilities, forms and problems of Bulgaria’s participation in the structures of European integration and cooperation and in the economic, political, academic and cultural life of Europe;

• dissemination of information and knowledge among the Bulgarian public and among the Bulgarian academic, cultural, political, professional and other circles about various political, economic, legal and other aspects of activity of the EC/EU, about integration and cooperation in Europe;

• dissemination of information for and providing assistance to foreign organisations, academic and professional circles and persons concerning the place, role, possibilities and problems of Bulgaria’s participation in the process of and in the structures of European integration and cooperation.

For the achievement of these goals the Association performs the following activities:

• supports cooperation among scholars, academics and other experts in the field of European studies;

• organises various events – conferences, symposia, round tables, lectures, public meetings and others;

• supports the teaching of European integration and cooperation related subjects in higher education institutions in Bulgaria;

• maintains contacts and cooperates with different partners – with similar organisations in Europe and the world, with other Bulgarian non-governmental organisations and public institutions, with the EC/EU services;

• participates in programmes and projects that contribute to the realization of its goals.
