What is FORNET?

FORNET – a European Foreign Policy Research Network – represents the first formal attempt to structure and co-ordinate a network of researchers across Europe focusing on foreign policy governance. FORNET is a forum for informed discussion and scholarly debate on all aspects of European foreign policy among academics and practitioners. It aims to modernise, widen and deepen research in this vital area of EU policy, building on a foundation of informal cooperation between its core members, who have been investigating and writing about European foreign policy for over twenty years.

Objectives

There are two further objectives of FORNET. The first is to link the academic community across Europe with its political practitioners, through regular meetings and the sharing of expertise. The second is to build a bridge between the academic community in the current EU member states and the communities in Eastern Europe and the Southern Mediterranean. FORNET members include fifteen academic and research institutions in the EU and another nine in the accession states. Through FORNET we hope to make a significant contribution towards improving the dialogue between academics and policy makers in the field of EU foreign policy.
