FOR ONE THREE-MONTH SCHOLARSHIP
FOR RESEARCH TRAINING IN EUROPEAN LAW IN CROATIA

Contents
1. The scholarship
The call is for 1 (one) scholarship for Bulgarian citizens for research training in European law.
The Department of European Public Law / Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, will act as host institution. Prof. Dr. SINISA RODIN, Jean Monnet lecturer in European Law, will be academic supervisor of the grantee. The grantee will undertake research training in the field of Community law in accordance with an individual programme to be agreed with the supervisor. Access to library facilities is ensured.
Details about the grant:
- amount: 500 Euro per month plus accommodation in a dormitory of the University of Zagreb (utilities included);
- travel expenses: to be reimbursed by the host institution (maximum reimbursable amount to be specified by the host institution at a later stage);
- duration: three months;
- starting date: not earlier than 1st February and not later than 30th April 2005 (the exact study period will be agreed upon jointly by the host institution and the selected grantee).
2. Who may apply?
Applicants must fall under one of the following categories:
- Doctoral students in law (priority will be given to those working in the field of European law);
- Holders of a LLM degree;
- Last year students in law.
Very good working language of English, including specialized legal terminology, is required.
3. Selection procedure
- Applicants must submit 2 (two) sets of the following documents:
- for doctoral students:
- a detailed Curriculum Vitae – in English, with recent photo and valid contact details (including email);
- motivation letter in English (2 pages);
- original letter of registration as doctoral student issued by the Dean of the Faculty or by the Head of the Department
- photocopy of master’s diploma and of the transcript of notes + translation into English of both documents (not necessarily validated by a notary public or by a sworn translator);
- document of English language proficiency;

- for holders of a master’s diploma (LLM):
- a detailed Curriculum Vitae – in English, with recent photo and valid contact details (including email);
- motivation letter in English (2 pages);
- photocopy of master’s diploma and of the transcript of notes + translation into English of both documents (not necessarily validated by a notary public or by a sworn translator);
>- document of English language proficiency;
- for last year students in law:
- a detailed Curriculum Vitae – in English, with recent photo and valid contact details (including email);
- motivation letter in English (2 pages);
- original transcript of notes for the duration of their studies until now (including results from the first semester of 2004-2005 academic year) + translation into English (not necessarily validated by a notary public or by a sworn translator);
- document of English language proficiency;

- Deadline:
- Applications will be considered for selection only if they are received by BECSA not later than 31st January 2005 (Monday), by 17:00 hours.
- There will be no acknowledgement of receipt.
- Pre-selection:
BECSA will organize pre-selection of all applicants, in order to establish one common list of pre-selected grantees. This list can include (a) no more than two doctoral students, (b) no more than two LLM holders, (c) no more than two last year students in law. The list will be publicly announced at the end of this web page within two weeks after the deadline for submission.
- Selection:
The list of pre-selected grantees and their application files will be sent to the host institution for a final selection. A representative of the host institution will contact the selected grantee directly.
4. Results of Pre-Selection
The list of pre-selected grantees will be announced here by mid-February 2005.
In conformity with item 3 (Selection procedure), sub-item 4, of these Terms of Reference, BECSA announces the pre-selection results today, on 18 February 2005 (Friday), as follows:
- (nominee for a grant) Ms. JANA KOLEVA
(born on 29 April 1978), holder of a LLM degree in Community Litigation from the University of Luxembourg;
- (reserve nominee for a grant) Ms. DIANA GANCHEVA
(born on 24 January 1983), last-year student in Law at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The final decision under this selection procedure will be taken by the Department of European Public Law / Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb. A representative of the Department will contact the selected grantee(s) directly, in order to make all legal, financial and technical arrangements on awarding the grant and undertaking the traineeship.
