CAFÉ BABEL

opens in Bulgaria with the kind support of the
College of Europe Alumni Association in Bulgaria (ABSKEB)

Café Babelinternet platform for news and forums supporting the creation of European civil society – will open a branch in on 24 October.

What is www.cafebabel.com

café babel is a new form of European media. Entirely on the Internet, available in 6 languages, it showcases the work of a network of 350 volunteers in 20 cities in 12 countries, from Madrid to Sofia, via Brussels, Paris and Berlin.

A platform for European civil society, café babel is a place where the voices and cultures of the entire European continent can be heard. A forum for reflection and analysis on European current affairs, café babel is a free media, unbiased and independent when it comes to its goals, its spirit and its functioning.

The mother association of café babel Sofia is the Association for European partnership, and the activities of the Bulgarian branch are supported by the local College of Europe Alumni Association.

The first and most pressing task for café babel Sofia is the setting up of the eight (as the Poles just set up the seventh ;-)) language version of café babel’s website. But that’s not everything! There is a whole bunch of other activities café babel “pushes”, for example an already renowned feature of the online magazine, the possibility to speak freely and to express constructive criticism is now brought “live” by café babel Sofia through its monthly debates!

Official opening of café babel Áúëãàðèÿ

So, after months of hard work, café babel Sofia is ready to present itself before the lettered and critical Bulgarian audience! The subject of the first café babel debate was not selected by chance, as there is hardly somebody not interested in:

Bulgaria’s membership to the EU: 2007 or 2008?
What does it mean to me?

But before engaging into the debate, the guests to the official opening will meet Alix Chambris, PR and partnership head of café babel Brussels, who will present café babel ideas and activities, as well those responsible for the noise in Bulgaria – SVETLA TOMOVA and MIGLENA DELCHEVA. Guests to the official opening will be students and professors from Sofia University, the University for national and world economics and New Bulgarian University, as well as members of the partner organizations.

Everyone interested is welcome on 24 October at 17:00 ÷. in the Information centre of the Delegation of the European Commission to Bulgaria on 9, Moskovska Street
